Medieval Market Day in Siena

Yesterday, the city of Siena held a bi-annual Medieval Market Day in the Piazza del Campo in honor of the weekly markets they used to hold in the Piazza del Campo back in medieval days.  It was a beautiful day and there were lots of people there!  I did a lot of browsing, bought a few things, and then sat in the sun and did some studying.

There was even a group of performers who were walking around on stilts, juggling, and entertaining the crowd that gathered to watch them.

Later that day, I went out for a little walk and caught this picture of the sun setting on the Duomo (below).

The market continued into the night until 8pm.  It lit up the Piazza del Camp; it was beautiful!  I took the below picture standing in an alleyway that leads down into the Piazza del Campo, watching the hustle and bustle of the market.

They lit candles along the balconies overlooking the Piazza del Campo and along the parapets of the Palazzo Publico and several other public buildings, which gave the night an even more magical feel.  Then, a group of fire dancers performed, which was really cool.
